Lucid dreaming opens up a world of possibilities in your dream space. With this kind of power, you can take control of your dream life. In this article, I go over 3 dreamwork techniques you can combine with lucid dreaming. This is for advanced lucid dreamers, but read on if you’re a beginner: anyone can learn how to practice these techniques.
1. Cord Cutting: Cord cutting is talked about a lot, but what is it really? At the gist of it, it’s leftover relationships that are still tied to your psyche or soul. These people often show up in dreams as projections of our mind, in nightmares, or as background noise. Cord cutting is important to prevent people we don’t want to see in our dreams from showing up. The way to use lucidity for this is to use the person you don’t want in your dreams any longer as a lucidity cue. When you see them, you wake up inside the dream and banish them. You can use any techniques, mentally or physically removing them, banishing them with a mantra, or replacing them. This is most effective when done every time they appear. They will appear less frequently and have less of an effect on your dreams.
2. Receive Guidance: Asking questions in dreams is often purported as a main way to get guidance, but asking questions while lucid takes this to a whole other level. You can get more direct answers this way, but they’re often not what you would expect. It’s important to remember what questions you would like to ask before going to sleep so you are able to remember them when you wake up inside your dream.
3. Simulate Closure: Is there a specific scenario or person where you feel you still haven’t had closure in waking life? Lucid dreaming can help bring closure to old wounds. If your mind is playing out the scenario or revisiting the person in your dreams, you can become lucid and ask questions like “why is this still affecting me?” You can even create a similar situation with the person or event, and relive it out to see what you might need to feel better from it and move forward empowered.
Our dreams hold powerful insights into our consciousness and lifetime wounds. Combining dreamwork practices with lucid dreaming is one of the most effective combinations for gaining clarity and peace in your dream life.
